and the work begins…

There comes a point at the beginning of the semester when things just start to pick up and work begins to take over.  It’s almost overwhelming. (but that could also be contributed to taking 19 credits).   Regardless, it’s allllmost at that point and i’m doing all i can to prepare for it so that i don’t get that sense of stress.  Its all about organization and getting things done on time.  With that said, here’s a little update with what’s been happening with me.

This Saturday night at 7 o’clock Obsidian, an acousmatic piece that i wrote, is going to be played at the Fenway Center on St. Stephens street in Boston. It is for the Northeastern Music Tech Club concert with a number of other students works being played, so it should be a good show. The Fenway Center is great, a beautiful old church that the university bought last year and converted to a concert hall.  In this particular concert, we will have a 12 speaker diffusion system that we will all be performing on and it always sounds phenominal.  Anyway, there will be some great pieces played so you should come out! You can listen to Obsidian on my Works page, however, you will not get the full experience on your computer speakers or ipod earbuds, so i suggest you come out and listen to it in its proper setting.

I’ve also been working on a new piece called Constrained Time.  This piece will be an audio/visual piece based around the concept that a french Author, Kristin Ross,  calls “constrained time.”

“Constrained Time is the time of repeated formalities and obligations – obligations that, like the departmental cocktail party, are neither precisely work, nor in any real sense of the term, pleasure.”

This piece will be based around constrained time in a vision of commuting.  Ben and I have been filming and getting some pretty awesome footage and ideas for the piece. More to come for that project!

Currently I’m in WRBB, the Northeastern University radio station with Ben and Dave Maggio doing our weekly radio show called MICHAEL JORDAN.  We DJ from 3-5 every thursday.  You can stream it online at www.wrbbradio.org.  Check it out, DJ BioRex (Dave) usually does a sick live set every week and this weeks is nasty so if you haven’t tuned in already, do so now!!
